    Dr. Jackie Dawson is searching for motivated and organized individuals to fill two Research Associate positions at the University of Ottawa (Dr. Jackie Dawson). The successful applicants will be working together on exciting Arctic science initiatives that involves Canadian and international researchers and institutions, Indigenous organizations and communities, and government agencies. Details on the positions are below.

    Position 1: Research Associate for the Qanittaq Clearn Arctic Shipping Initiative:

    The CFREF funded Qanittaq Clean Arctic Shipping Initiative (https://www.qanittaq.ca/) aims to address and respond to the increase in Arctic shipping, related environmental impacts affecting Arctic communities and support Inuit communities’ needs for safe and cost-efficient resupply. The position will support theme 1 in the project, which is focused on ‘sustainable shipping operations and coastal/community infrastructure. The successful candidate will ensure the successful implementation of Theme 1, including organizing team meetings, facilitating research licensing and/or ethics approvals, budgeting, preparing project reports, liaising with community researchers, and as desired can be part of the science team by participating in field-based and desk-based research activities, article writing, and conference presentations.

    Position 2: Research Associate for the Arctic Pulse Initiative:

    Arctic Pulse is a Canadian-led international science initiative addressing globally relevant questions that have locally and globally relevant consequences. Between 2024 and 2027, international science initiatives and events will be coordinated to lead up to a major Arctic science field mission that will occur in Arctic Canada in the summer of 2027. This initiative is being co-designed in ways that advances and supports Indigenous self-determination in research. Thus, the person filling this position will work directly with Inuit Circumpolar Council Canada (ICC) and researchers at University of Ottawa and Laval University, in order coordinate and organize co-development workshops, develop appropriate governance frameworks, set up committees, liaise with key rightsholder groups, and relevant stakeholders, and support training and communications. The person will also establish linkages between Arctic Pulse and the CFREF funded Qanittaq project (https://www.qanittaq.ca/) which is co-led by ICC Canada and Memorial University and is supported by University of Ottawa.
